Mom's 51st Birthday

Last Wednesday was mom's birthday. James & I planned on making her tacos, rice & beans for dinner.
James, Gail, Sarah & Devin came over around 4pm. Then Mona & Emilio came over & we had a surprise visit by 'good 'ol' Victor.
We made a good dinner & Gail made apple dump cake...YUM!
This was also the same night that we pierced Delayna, Adriana & my ears.
Well, here's pics...

Baby Wearing

Who said only Mama can baby wear???
Anthony has been dying to wear Delayna, he's so silly! Saturday night we were cleaning the living room up & found the front carrier. He asked if he could put it on and put Delayna in it, so I let him.
Here's a pic,,,TOO CUTE

2 Month Weigh In

I went & worked out yesterday for the first time, since having Delayna. I weighed in & I don't have all of my stats, but this is what I am going off of...
My highest weight before getting pregnant was 225lbs, yesterday I weighed in at 203!!!!
I am focusing to work hard and get down to 199 right now. I want to be able to say I weigh "one-hundred and..."
I have to really focus on how I am feeling right now. This feeling is awesome, knowing that I have lost 22 (or more) pounds and how I feel physically. I used to be so tired and ran down & not wanting to do anything. I feel so much more refreshed and I can do anything.
Last night I was talking to Noe and he was sharing with me the Pastor Mike wants to do a marathon. I told him that I wanted to participate. So I just may be getting ready to do a marathon. They are looking into a 26 mi marathon, but my idea may turn them and we will do something different.
Honestly, I am NOT a runner, but if we do what I want to do, I plan on training to be in this marathon & RUN!
I am excited!!! My adrenaline starts pumping when I think of it, the excitement builds up and I really want to do something like this. My goal in my life has always been to run. I hate running, always have & was even teased in school for it. But as an adult, running has been embedded in me and I want to do it!
Of course Jose will be my little trainer & that would be nice to do side by side with my Honey =).
So that's that...

She's 2 Months Old...Already

Things are getting SO much better! A few friends told me about Gripe Water (all in another post) and she has been SO much more pleasant! I am finally getting some sleep, but still not enough. We've had family & friends over for mom's birthday & Delayna has done really good.
Anyway, here's our photoshoot from the day...

Ears Pierced

We had originally planned to have Delayna's ears done in Laughlin, but that went another direction due to her not having her shots yet...
Come to find out, Gail wanted to do them. Wednesday night was my mom's birthday, so I planned to have them done on her birthday.
Since Delayna was getting her ears done, I figured I would allow Adriana to get her second hole & I would do mine also. Just a way to remember that we all got them done at the same time.
Well, here's pics & a video...

Yeah!

I think I found a solution! My poor baby has been suffering with this monster called Colic. I hate it! We have tried Hyland's Colic Tablets, Manzanilla (aka Chamomile Tea), Hierba Buena (aka Peppermint Tea), Rubbing her belly, swaddling, positioning when eating, warm baths, and whatever else.
Well, someone told me about Gripe Water. I looked for it, but didn't find it. Then another friend brought it up to me again. So my mom started calling stores, calling Rite Aid first. They carry it!
I went down yesterday afternoon and bought Little Tummy's Gripe Water I gave her a dose after she ate around 5:30/6pm. She was SO pleasent all evening! Then I fed her again about 8pm. She was talking & coo'ing with everyone. Just content as could be.
At 9pm Jose took a shower with her. I got her out, lotioned, massaged & dressed for bed. At 10pm she was nursing, until 11pm. She feel asleep. I put her in her crib thinking she'll be up w/in minutes.
NOPE! She was out! I stayed up watching Biggest Loser until almost 12am, expecting her to wake up.
I couldn't believe she stayed asleep without screaming & crying for hours on end! I was so happy for her, I was crying! Went down & told my mom, woke up Jose to tell him. I wanted to stand there staring at her & make sure she was ok!
She slept until almost 2am, when she woke to eat again.
I am praying this is the trick! We will see tonight!
YEAH!!!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Ok, I know I'm a day late, but man have I been busy!!!
Dominic & I woke up yesterday morning & found that the leprechauns had visited us. We know this because, they turned our milk green & swapped mama's vanilla coffee creamer with irish cream creamer.
Then while Dominic had Lucky Charms for breakfast, Grammie told him a story of leprechauns in the grass. He then insisted that we go out in the back yard and look for them.
We had to go to Adi's school for parent/teacher conference. So we showered & got dressed in our green attire, so no one would pinch us (Ms. Bridgett taught him that Sunday at church ;-)).
On the way to sissy's school, mama put on her Rare Gold perfume...LOL!!!
For dinner we had Corn Beef & Cabbage with potatoes, & Green Watergate Salad. We ate on green bordered plates & bowls.
It was LOTS of fun! Dominic really had fun pretending!
I didn't get a pic of all the kids & I in our green, but I did manage to get a pic of Delayna on my phone. Here she is...

And my boy made the paper!

I got the Record Gazette (our local paper) and was reading through it. I came across a pic that looked familiar & sure enough, it was Ant's soccer team...The Titans!
I can't find the article online, so I will quote some lines from the article here:
"AYSO teams among region's best"
"For the first time in many years Pass Area AYSO qualified two teams in the same division at the Southern California Section 1 Playoffs, in Riverside."
The two teams were The Highlighters coached by Debbie Hopp and The Titans coached by Lenny Hernandez.
"The two U-14 Boys teams, after playing the regular 10 wk fall AYSO season in Beaumont, battled for the Regional Championship in Nov. 2008. The Titans clinched the championship spot with a 2-1 victory over The Highlighters. Both teams moved on to represent Pass Area Region 641 at the Area N Playoffs, held in San Bernardino & Hemet over four weekends in Jan. Once again they met in the championship round--only this time, The Highlighters came out on top with a 2-0 victory (*This was the game that I made it to during the 2nd half, just after having Delayna. Ant had a goal go past him. Then in the 4th quarter another went in =( *).
Both teams earned theri well-deserved spots advancing to the Section Playoffs in Riverside. At the end of Sat. games, the Highlighters finished 2nd in their pool, ending their season ranking 8th in Southern California.
The Titans won their pool, advancing to the semi-final round on Sunday. Loosing 1 & tying 2. (Ant only let 3 goals in the whole 2 days of play!)
The Titans are the first team in the Pass Area history to advance to the semi-final round in the U10-U14 divisions. They finished fourth at the end of Sunday and ending their season ranked fourth in Southern California."

Then they wrote, "...would like to extend a congratulations to the players, coaches, and parents of both the Titans & Highlighters for their accomplishments this season and for representing the region with integrity, class, and great sportsmanship."

I've had some stuff come my way about the board of AYSO (which I am part of), but I must say in the end...It's always been for the kids & things are done for them to succeed.
I am proud to be part of this organization & especially the Mama to this boy who has an awesome future ahead of him!

She Made Captain!

Saturday was Adriana's first Spring Select Game out in San Bernardino. Coach handed her backpack and she started going through it.
Well, in one of the pockets she found a 'Captain's Band'. She asked him, "Hey, you hid this in my bag." Coach Randy kinda chuckled and said, "It's yours, I knew you would look in there."
So Adriana went around asking the other girls if they got one too. She never found out if anyone else had one or not.
We thought that she was captain just for that game and then they would switch each game...
Boy was I wrong! I emailed Coach Randy on Tuesday letting him know Adriana is sick & wouldn't make it to practice. When he responded this is what he said:

Melissa,
Hi, thank you very much for your email! Adriana is a pleasure to have on the team. She has been very mature about her injury and I think she is doing very well. I was also happy to make her Captain because she really took it serious to help out and I know she understands what it means to help Terry and I lead the team on the field.
Please let Adriana know she will definitely be missed at practice if she is too sick to attend but that we will all be looking forward to seeing her on Thursday!
Thank you again for your email :o)

Wednesday's Update

I haven't had time to sit & write out my Wednesday...I had referred to it in a previous post, but I haven't had blogging time lately. So here it goes...

I woke up at 7 am to get myself ready for MOTS, then get Delayna & Dominic ready too. We headed out just before 9am, when we were supposed to be there at 9. We finally got there & it was so nice being back! I had a wonderful time while Dominic (who didn't want to go) was having fun in his little class. When I went to go pick him up, he didn't even want to go home! I knew he needed to get out for a while! Delayna did really good, with the exception of her blowing out her diaper & I had to completely change her!
Then we headed home. The skies started looking a little dark & gloomy, but we made it home before the rains came in. My windsheild wiper on the driver's side broke when a semi truck's tire came off on the freeway & hit our windshield...UGH!
My Grandma Wallace was here & we had planned for her to come out. She wanted to take me shopping for Delayna. Well, as we started to leave, it started to really start sprinkling. I told my Grandma that we will have to stop & get new wipers. We went to Kragens & my Grandma bought me new wipers!!!!
Then we headed to Wal-Mart & decided to go eat first. So we went to Chili's. It was so yummy! Even better when Grandma paid the bill =D
After eating we went to Wal-Mart to go get Delayna her stuff. Grandma bought her:
~Her crib set
~A monitor (the one I got at the shower didn't work well due to the second story)
~Swing
~Warm Blanket for her crib
~2 Spongebob t-shirts for Dominic
~A nursing bra & tank top for me
We were spoiled, but SO grateful!!!!
Then we came home & James was here with the kids so they could see Grandma. I had plans for all of us to eat dinner together, but Grandma had bible study & had to go early.
Jose bbq'd steaks for the rest of us & I made my pasta/vegi salad.
James & Gail went home & I cleaned up from dinner.
The remainder of the night I had to deal with little miss...
It was a really good day though!!!

Resting in his arms

Yesterday was a LONG day for me! *you can read about it in another post*
Last night Delayna was just being a fuss. She was fighting her sleep for HOURS! She just would not go to sleep & wanted to just fuss. Nothing was wrong with her, at all!
So, I was doing really good until about 1am when she really started fighting. She was fussing really bad & starting to cry hard. I couldn't do anymore comforting & had to put her in her bouncer and walk away. I started picking up the living room & I hear someone coming down the stair...
I thought, "Darn it, she woke someone up."
Well, it was Jose, who needed to be up & going in 3 hours.
He came and just hugged me. I told him to leave her cry a bit, but he couldn't. So he picked Delayna up and started walking around bouncing her. He finally got her to sleep within about 5 minutes. So we headed upstairs & he put her in her crib to sleep, while I got Dominic (who feel asleep in bed with Jose) and took him to bed.
Well, I walk back in the room & he is bouncing her crib. She finally fell asleep and we crawled into bed. He pulled his pillows over to my side of the bed & when I got into the covers, he just grabbed me and held me TIGHT! *just on a side note, he was able to have his pillow in front of him & his arms reached all the way around me...Sqeee, yes, I've lost that much weight =D*
It felt so nice, relaxing, comforting, assuring, loving.
We began to doze off, while he massaged my back (which has been KILLING me lately!).
Then what do we hear? Oh yes, little miss fussing again.
I just got up and put her chupi back into her mouth & crawled back into my husbands arms. We did this about 5 times or so until she was finally out.
The last time I looked at the clock, it said it was a few minutes after 2am!
I was beat & my poor husband, he only had 2 more hours to sleep before he had to head out for work!
It felt SO nice to be held though. There are days/nights that I am just beat! My body hurts, I am exhausted, the kids are going every which direction, etc.
Then to fall into my husbands arms and just find refuge is SO nice!

Through this, I have been reminded that God has his arms here for us to fall into and find rest, peace, comfort, assurance & most of all,,,LOVE!

***On a side note, I woke up at 6 am & Delayna was still asleep! I freaked out & checked her, thinking "Is she ok!?!?" She was fine, resting peacefully in her newly decorated crib...FIRST TIME! Her last feeding was at around 12am! She went for 6 hours without eating, too bad I didn't get 6 hours of sleep =)***

Taking Care Of Ourselves

I was reading my blog reader & I came across this. It hit me & had to repost.

I pray that the Lord opens your eyes as he did mine.

Tuesday Testimony

healthy+body Taking Care of Our Ourselves

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

In context Paul is actually speaking about sins of a sexual nature. But I want to focus more on the idea of honoring God completely with our bodies. Everything about what we do with and to our bodies should be done for the glory of God. Specifically from the point of view of a mother, I think it is very important to keep our bodies healthy and in good shape. Although, I seem to slack more on keeping my body in good shape lately.

When you have little ones, it’s important to be able to keep up with them and stay healthy for them. I remember someone once telling me something that has stuck with me. If you are flying on a plane and have a child with you, it is very important for you to put the breathing mask on yourself first before the child, if trouble happens. The first instinct of any loving parent is to place the mask on their child first, and then themselves. But if something were to happen to the parent they wouldn’t be able to help the child, thus making it very important for the parent to get the mask first.

I think this helping our children first instinct keeps us from caring for ourselves at times. I know that I will sometimes forget to eat something, because I am just thinking about my children eating. Sometimes I forget that I need “me time” in order to get some rest. And regretfully so, I don’t spend time in the Word as often as I should, because I get caught up in the busyness of motherhood.

Sometimes when we think we are putting our children first, we can actually be harming them. Children need parents who are healthy, and have a good relationship with the Lord. As the good old saying goes, “If you can’t love yourself, then you can’t love others.” And the same goes for God. To truly love Him, you need to love and care for yourself. He made you and loves you, and He needs to be honored by your body. Take care of yourself and love yourself, for I truly believe that this is also showing love to our Maker and others.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:13-14

His works are wonderful, and you are His work. It’s so easy to not care for ourselves because of time, or just because we think we aren’t worth it. If the Lord took the time to actually “knit” you together, then He must have thought you were worthy. Realize that you are worthy, take care of His creation, and show love to Him and others through the care of your own body, mind, soul and spirit first.

Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:36-40

I’d be interested to hear what sort of tips you all have for finding time to take care of ourselves. It seems like life is so busy, and it is easy to forget about ourselves. What do you think we could do to ensure that we spend the appropriate time needed in order to love ourselves?

My daily concoctions

Everyone knows, before I got pregnant I was doing Weight Watchers & kicking butt!!! I was down 13 lbs in 2 months. I had to stop & ended up losing a bunch of weight & am actually down 7lbs my pre-pregnancy weight.
I am determined to keep it off & continue working out as soon as my body allows it. Well with my daily routine of watching how much I eat, I have a daily concoction of stuff that I take.
Someone was telling me about Apple Cider Vinegar with Mothers when I was doing WW. I didn't buy into it.
Well, when Delayna was about a week old, we were having issues breastfeeding & I thought we had thrush. So I called a lactation consultant & she told me about the Apple Cider Vinegar w/ Mothers. I have been taking it since. It's not the best, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, right. It seems to be doing the trick on my body though. I previously had HORRIBLE stomach issues & haven't had any since taking all of my vites.
Here is a pic of what I take:

From left to right:
Apple Cider Vineger (1tbs), Fenugreek (2), Blessed Thistle Herb (2), Flax Seed Oil (3), Cranberry Juice (I warm this up & add the ACV to it & drink it while taking the vitamins).
Not the best, but it's all worth it!
